Mermaid Flubber Recover

It’s official. The Mermie is complete! And, I actually get the pleasure of delivering and hanging it this week. I tell you a labor of love this project was. Mostly because of who I created for and for all the flubbers along the way. If you missed all that crazy, you can see all the before, during after pics starting here. I shared a weeks worth of Mermie progress only to end in flubber.

The really cool thing about the outcome of this, was involving the person I painted it for. Her name is Lauren. She’s young and the quote really spoke to her and mostly spoke to me FOR HER.

The deets on supplies: 36×36 canvas, color mediums: Dr. Ph Martin’s Bombay India Ink, Caran d ache Neopastels, Caran d ache Neocolor II’s, Prismacolor Pencil, Acrylic paints (Various Brands), White Gesso, Black Gesso. I varnished the whole canvas using this technique from this AMAZINGSAUCE artist Ester Roi. Listen people, she is amazing. She invented the Icarus Drawing Board. I have it. LOVE IT. She’s fabulous! Getting a piece of her work for my own collection is definitely on my bucket list.

Ok, one more thing… the beauty of the Caran d ache Neopastels are that they are sooooooo smooth and creamy and I can just use them and push the color around with my fingers and they are so flexible. I can heat them up with a heat gun and get things moving around on the canvas. Just luscious. I digress.

Here are all the pics of the final stages of progress on this lovely Mermie. To create the sun, I pulled out some tissue to build up the layers of texture. The mermaid is so smooth in her illustration that I felt the textured sun would help balance it out.
