Creating Custom Canvas Art with Original Works

When I create an original work of art using several mediums, I often digiMIXmash it with other graphic elements like typography. Last week, I shared THIS project. I snapped a few pics along the way and thought I would share my process.

The pic below shows Before Typography and After Typography.

Below is a shot of the original art created using colored pencil, oil pastels, watercolor and Copic markers. Oil pastels were warmed and mixed together to create a background after I worked the shell up. I use an art board designed for use with wax-based mediums called the Icarus Art Board. It allows me to draw and paint using the same board. I just love it! The image below the original sports an inspirational quote and was printed on archival paper after I digiMIXmashed the original art with typography. This process included scanning the original, touching up elements, and MIXing in the typography. I print all my archival prints on an Epson large format printer.

This next shot shows the final print cut and the canvas it gets adhered to.
I put generous amounts of gel matte medium on the canvas and adhered the print covering each edge and the top, smoothing the gel medium along the way. After waiting for it to thoroughly dry. The final coat shown below is a Golden poly varnish to give the final canvas a SHINE coated protectant.
Using silver metallic paint, I coated the edges of the canvas. When dry, I added a swash of poly varnish to seal it's shine.
The final canvas created the perfect home decor piece that had a finished seal.
Now, I still own the original and may digiMIXmash it again with something else. Or, makes more of the same. either way, I have the flexibilty to create MORE! Have a super creative day!
